Who we are
G Smith Electrical Contractors Limited ("we", "our", "us") operates this website. For the purposes of UK data protection law — the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018 — we are the data controller for the personal information described in this policy.

What information we collect
We only collect personal information you choose to give us:
- Enquiry and quote forms — your first and last name, phone number, postcode, the service you are interested in and, on our full contact form, your email address and message.
- Direct contact — information you provide when you phone, email or write to us, including details about your property or premises relevant to a quote.
- Work records — where we carry out work for you, the information needed to design, certify and warrant that work, such as your address and details of the installation.
We do not ask for, and you should not send, more information than a quote or enquiry needs. This website has no user accounts and collects no special-category data.
How we use your information
We use your information to:
- respond to your enquiry and provide quotations;
- arrange surveys, installations and follow-up work;
- carry out, certify and stand behind work you engage us to do;
- keep records we are legally required to keep (for example electrical certification); and
- communicate with you about work in progress or completed.
We do not use your information for automated decision-making or profiling, and we do not send marketing emails.
Our lawful bases
Under UK GDPR we rely on:
- Legitimate interests — responding to enquiries you send us and administering our business;
- Contract — where processing is necessary to prepare or perform a contract with you, such as producing a quote or carrying out installation work;
- Legal obligation — where we must retain records, for example certification and tax records; and
- Consent — where you tick the consent box on our forms. You can withdraw consent at any time by contacting us.
How our forms work
Enquiry forms on this website are processed by Formspree, Inc., a form-handling service based in the United States. When you submit a form, Formspree receives the information you entered and delivers it to our email. Formspree acts as a data processor under its data-processing terms, and international transfers are safeguarded by Standard Contractual Clauses. You can read Formspree's own privacy policy at formspree.io/legal/privacy-policy.
Our website is hosted by Netlify, Inc. (United States). Like any web host, Netlify processes technical request data — such as your IP address — in server logs for the purpose of delivering and securing the site. International transfers by our providers are covered by safeguards recognised under UK GDPR, such as standard contractual clauses; see each provider's privacy policy for details.
Cookies and analytics
This website does not use advertising cookies, marketing pixels or third-party analytics. We do not track you across other websites. If we introduce analytics or any cookies requiring consent in future, we will update this policy and add appropriate controls first.
Who we share information with
We do not sell or rent your personal information, ever. We share it only with:
- the service providers named above (Formspree, Netlify), to the extent needed to run this website;
- suppliers and subcontractors where necessary to deliver work you have engaged us for — for example an equipment manufacturer handling a warranty claim; and
- authorities or certification bodies where we are legally required to do so.
How long we keep it
- Enquiries that do not become work — typically deleted within 24 months of our last contact with you.
- Quotes and completed work — retained for as long as needed to meet warranty, certification, tax and legal obligations; for contract and certification records this is typically at least six years after completion.
When information is no longer needed, we delete it.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- request access to the personal data we hold about you;
- request correction of inaccurate data;
- request erasure of your data where applicable;
- object to, or request restriction of, certain processing;
- data portability, where processing is based on consent or contract; and
- withdraw consent at any time, where consent is the basis we rely on.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at info@gsmithelectrical.com or on 07720 802405. We will respond within one calendar month.
You also have the right to complain to the UK's supervisory authority, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO): ico.org.uk, or by phone on 0303 123 1113. We would appreciate the chance to resolve any concern directly first.
Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information from unauthorised access, loss or misuse. This website is served over HTTPS, form submissions are encrypted in transit, and access to enquiry information is limited to the people who need it to respond to you.
Third-party links
This website may link to other websites — for example manufacturers or accreditation registers. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of external sites.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date at the top.
