Teescraft Engineering
A complete electrical fit-out for a North East engineering works — 1600-amp substation, distribution and building services — plus a 475 kWp rooftop array. 2.8-year payback.
Teescraft Engineering runs a working engineering site in the North East, and the brief here was the whole electrical package — not a panel job with a bit of wiring, but the complete infrastructure a manufacturing operation depends on.
That started at the incoming supply: a 1600-amp substation and site-wide electrical distribution, sized for the demands of engineering plant. From there the team fitted the power, lighting and controls throughout, and the fire, data and security systems a modern industrial building needs to run safely and stay compliant.
With the building fully wired by the same firm, the roof was finished with a 475 kWp solar array — the largest in this set. Because an engineering works draws heavily through the day, when the panels are producing, most of that generation is used on site rather than exported. That self-consumption is exactly why the payback lands at 2.8 years, the fastest of any project here.
One contractor carried the job end to end, so the array was designed into a supply and distribution system G Smith had installed — no handovers between trades, and one team accountable for the whole electrical picture long after commissioning.
For an engineering business the electrical side is not a background utility — it is what the machines run on. Sizing and building the substation and distribution properly first meant the rest of the fit-out, and the array on top, had a supply designed for real industrial demand rather than retrofitted around it.
